Opening May 15 | 2003 SLEEPING WITH THE AMBASSADOR At the historic Ambassador Hotel, 3400 Wilshire Boulevard Conceived and Created by Heidi Duckler, Dan Evans and Merridawn Duckler Music composed by Amy Knoles Performed by Collage Dance Theatre The Ambassador Hotel, still closed to the public after a decade, was the home of the fabled Cocoanut Grove, the Paul Williams-designed Coffee Shop, and the Academy Award Ceremonies. Director Heidi Duckler mines this historical site for ghosts of the past and pieces of architectural detail to create a performance that is a dark blend of nostalgia and humor. The audience begins its journey through the hotel at the empty pool, and continues down hallways filled with what's remembered as well as what can be imagined. The show makes a stop at the coffee shop for a taste of the Hollywood Dream before continuing on to the Cocoanut Grove. Collage Dance Theatre's dancers will turn this Sammy Davis Jr. hot spot on its ear in a performance that defines 'site-specific' in a whole new way.
